No More Smoking In Your Home?
Belmont Considers Nation's Toughest Smoking Ban
Thursday, November 16, 2006
BELMONT, CA - A proposed ordinance to ban smoking
from all homes, except those that are single-family &
detached, is expected to be introduced in January by Belmont
City Council. With complete support of Mayor Philip
Mathewson, the proposal has received favor from the vast
majority of residents. If this ordinance is enacted, Serena
Chen, policy director of the American Lung Association of
California, stated she believes it would be the strictest
proposal in the world. Could this open the door for more
cities to follow? If so, what rights are we left with when
we can't choose what we do in our own homes? These are scary
times, and it will definitely be something to pay close
attention to in the coming months.
